Healthy Diets for Winter

Healthy Diets for Pets for Winter
While we continue to warm our tootsies "down under" in our Aussie winter months, our pets require warming from the inside. Here some of our helpful tips to keep your family active.

1)Turmeric bombs - make these as golden paste -stir and simmer these ingredients on the low stove for 20 min, store in a jar in the fridge and give 1/4tsp/20 kg dog twice daily. I also add in 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon powder to balance blood sugars in overweight dogs, while also cutting/reducing the carbohydrate content of the diet
  • 1/2 cup organic turmeric powder
  • 1 cup filtered or spring water
  • 2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup organic MCT oil or ghee
2) Supplement with our Chinese herbal formulae and some PEA.
What is PEA you may ask? Palmitoylethanolamide or PEA is a long chain fatty acid amide has become a fabulous non-toxic food sourced supplement that binds to the cannabinoid receptors- i.e. LEGAL MARIJUANA! ;-)

It was first isolated from soybean lecithin in 1957. In 1980 N-2-hydroxyethylpalmitamide (PEA) was isolated from egg yolk and peanut meal.

A study conducted in 1954 examined the effect of egg yolk in diets for guinea pigs used to inhibit anaphylactic arthritis. This study may have been spurred by earlier observational studies which linked the feeding of dried egg yolk to underprivileged children with a decrease in recurrence of rheumatic fever.

3) Weight loss - feed less carbs, more vegies! Stop all the dry food- that is the largest source of calories Try this:

Old Dog Bones diet: Rx Arthritis
Step 1: Make the broth, into a Large pot place:
  • 12 cups of water
  • 2 cups of Oxtails
  • 2 cups of pork soft rib bones
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 tsp. ginger powder
  • 4 tsp. fresh basil
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 3 tsp. turmeric
  • 1tsp ground black pepper

Bring to the boil and cook on low heat for 2 hours.

Remove the bones and discard, leaving the gel and soft cartilage into the stew. The turmeric, ginger, and pepper provide a "food as medicine" activated curcumin with the cooking and natural fats. These provide anti-inflammatory, anticancer and pain relief.

Discard the extra fat layer on top of the stew.

DO NOT FEED COOKED BONES!

If on weight loss diet, remove most carbs.
(No rice for 2 months, substitute celery for carrots)

Step 2: Add the following
  • ½ cup rice
  • 2 cups carrots
  • 1 cup beets
  • 4 cups greens (chard, beet greens, spinach, broccoli etc.)
  • 1 cup of sweet potatoes diced
  • 1 cup of liver or heart muscle
  • 5 tablespoons of flax oil/cod liver blend (add after cooking)
  • Enough water to cover

Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and cook until the rice is done.
Store in the refrigerator.
